Rearranging his title to “Chain Sawman” sounded a bit like a Lawyer’s name, and it all snowballed from there into a janky Saul Goodman-style ad. This was the first longer scripted piece I made since dedicating proper time and resource to TikTok and Instagram stories, and it performed well there once clipped up…

I’d never made an extended parody before this, so it’s very affirming that the Chainsaw Man fans seem to like it. My main priority when writing was to make it entertaining to a wider audience, which - considering it went on to win Best Short at Raindance Film Festival’s Open Shorts night - hopefully panned out well too…

The animation was a very fulfilling combination of digital characters made from mixed media colours and textures. Matt Ley offered his voice as the Parking Ticket Devil, musical maestro Daniel Dobbs provided some lovely beats, and Deb Gough - guitarist of excellent metal band Heriot - was kind enough to contribute some awesome riffs (an ode to the HM2 “chainsaw guitar” sound of classic Swedish death metal - seemed apt!)
